For over a year I lived in Manhattan without internet nor television. Despite living in a thriving city, I felt extremely disconnected from everything around me. It made me realize how much we are dependent on electronics in our life to feel secure. This disturbed me and gave me the idea to make this sculpture. I chose the plug and outlet. They both need each other in order to work, and we need them. We often require so many outlets for our gadgets that we need multiple outlet strips and extension cords. I casted many plugs, but not enough outlets. This symbolizes the frustration I felt as well as how increasingly vulnerable we are as technology takes over our world.
